“Diversity and the Media: The Black Presence In Contemporary European Societies – with Fred Kuwornu” was a thought-provoking evening with Ghanaian-Italian filmmaker, producer, writer and activist Fred Kuwornu (Inside Baffalo, 18 IUS SOLI) screening exclusive extracts of his latest film “BLAXPLOITALIAN: 100 Years of Blackness in Italian Cinema” to aid the discussion on Diversity and the Media in relation to the black presence in contemporary European societies
Tuesday 19th April 2016
“A face in a foreign space: personal growth through cultural experiences from travels” was an evening in collaborating with UAL Culture and Travel Society to present Exploring Personal Growth From Cultural Experiences Through Travel! TV broadcaster Andy Akinwolere opened the event sharing his experience as Blue Peter’s first black male presenter. Our panel of distingusted artists were: renowned Photographer James Barnor (Ever Young), London-Nigerian photographer Paul Iwala, and Diversity Matters founder and travel blogger Kai Lutterodt. The evening was followed by drinks reception and networking.

“Creating safe spaces for Black Women” Black Blossoms founder and SUARTS Education Officer Bee, offered a workshop for women who self-identify as black. The workshop explored how to be heard in environments where the black female voice is often overshadowed.
Thursday 21st April 2016
“Why does race matter in my learning environment?” started with a screening of a short film of interviews with UAL students and staff sharing what diversity means to them and how it’s reflected in their learning environment by Kai Lutterodt, before leading into a heated and emotional panel discussion with including BAME students & staff, and representatives of UAL senior management. The evening included drinks refreshments, goody bags from The Voice Newspaper and a networking reception.

“Where We Are Now?“ – Student + Alumni presentations and networking event ending a week of dynamic events! Students and alumni of UAL presented their your course works, shared experience, and made contacts for collaboration!!
