You could say the best was left till last but in actual fact, I was moved by so many of the top 15 movies screened tonight at Campus MovieFest Grand Finale at CineWorld Haymarket – I wouldn’t have like to be in the judges shoes!
Having said that, The Sculpted – Created by Soon and Jones – University of Westminster was a deserved winner for Best Drama. The topic of FGM (Female Genital Mutilation) is one that is thankfully on the upraise. For university students to take on such a topic, and portray a story within 5 minutes on an illegal and twisted cultural concept of “womanhood” was indeed brave.
Catherine Tate arrived fashionably late to give the final awards. But as someone in the crowd shouted out as she walked off stage; “love you!”, the feeling was mutual – she’s great isn’t she?
Winning best comedy was The Small Spoon Experience Ltd. – Created by Finnian Bamber. I laughed! And it’s not so easy to get me laughing. Great concept and twist. Don’t judge a tough-looking dude by his looks – such a cliché yet we always fall for it!
Well done to all the winners and nominees! Good to see UAL represented with a nomination for Coffee Break – Created by Cameron Russell.

Don’t forget it’s not too late to enter the Social Justice film category. Find out more online. I’ve been inspired by tonight’s films to get writing… It could be anyone winning £2000!
